Nested Boxes, a modern quilt pattern for quiltmakers of all experience levels.
The big idea for this quilt design has origins several decades ago when my Grandfather gave my Grandmother an engagement ring for their 50th wedding anniversary. To add to the surprise and fun, he tucked the box with the ring in a box large enough to hold a microwave. My Grandmother, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, unwrapped a series of boxes, each one smaller than the previous one until she finally arrived at the velvet jewelry box. It was a memorable moment!
Fast-forward and I was working with a client on a quilt design for her young son’s bedroom. The result: a graphic two-color quilt design featuring concentric squares, like the nested boxes my Grandmother opened all those years ago.
